Slow Down and Learn to be Patient

Well I have been relaxing off work for the past week.  It’s flown by.  Three birthdays down – with mine just to go next week.  April is always such a busy time for us. I’ve read a couple of books, baked birthday cakes with gusto, had longer lies and given far too many lifts to Mia, far too late at night.  Workwise – I’ve had a toddler shoot – very relaxed and chilled but needed to be quick with the shutter as Isabella was on the move on a mission.

When it gets to my birthday – there is usually not much money left in the pot – that’s why this year I snapped up an early birthday present – an OM-1 camera from the Film Is Not Dead stall at Brick Lane when we were in London a few months ago.  I’ve been waiting patiently to use it, but patience has run out and I loaded it with my first roll of film today.  Already – it has slowed my pace, I am thinking more before each shot.  I am recording F-stop and shutter speeds, making notes as I am going along. And I am already anticipating what the first roll of film will turn out like.  I’m loving it… but finding it hard to accept I can’t see the shot I have just taken!  It’s already forced me to change the way I shoot digital as well – less shots, more composed.

Here are a few taken on my OM-D EM-1 digital, probably with my 12-40 lens, with a  little or no editing.

Light Catching…

I had a rare weekday with no school photography booking (half day for kids on a Friday) so I was delighted to not have to  get up a six and lug my studio about.  Instead I spent the time during the solar eclipse walking the dog (the air temperature changed dramatically, everything seemed still and the birds were singing) then came home to see if I could glimpse the show between the clouds.

Here is my light catching from this morning – featuring no moon….

Simply Sunday……Rose, Lace and Shadows

Today has been one for chores. Boring with a capital B. For the most part, the sun has been splitting the sky here in Scotland, which has been rare here the past few  weeks.  Annoying then that I had a pile of things to do before I get back to work tomorrow.

I’ve kept myself going by stopping for shortbread laced with Nutella, endless cups of tea and the odd bit of photography thrown in.

Here are todays results.  No people.  Just detail.

Cypriot Shadows

Well a week in Cyprus did me the world of good.  No phone. No internet. Just swimming under the sun and stars, heat on my bones, reading, playing table tennis and crib, drinking too much wine and frappes. All seems like shadows in another world now that I am back to reality.
