Today #2

I’ve been hanging out for the weekend ALL week. There must be something wrong with me because I feel exhausted most of the time and I am wishing my weekdays away. I had no plans for the weekend – the boys are away and Mia has stacks of studying to do.

In-between the mundane – here is a snapshot of the little things that made my day today.

1. A week old white roses – 3 quid from Aldi – none of this £45 a bunch crap –  that Interflora were trying to charge me to send to my mum for Mothers Day.  Utter bollocks.

2.Wholemeal, homemade pizza prep – to be eaten later, washed down with a glass of red watching The Voice, ogling Ricky Wilson with my girl.

3.Revision food for Mia – smoothie in the making.

4. Homemade flourless chocolate and lime cake for after I have finished drooling at the TV.

5. The most two interesting things I saw on my walk with the dog, although I did have a rather interesting conversation with my neighbour about lesbian activity on Netflix.

All images (except 5. – which was my old Nikon D90) taken on Olympus OMD EM1.

Detail….Out of Focus and More Shoes I Don’t Own

A couple of my favourite images taken this past few days.  Taken on Olympus OM-D EM1.

Tulips in my living room – finished but better than fresh.  Decay always seems better with nature.

My new Mac lipstick. A little high maintenance for me.  It means I actually have to check my appearance from time to time. Image taken in the loos of Flatplanet, Soho.

Nicholas Kirkwood shoes – not mine.  Too big, too expensive for my budget. But lovely all the same.

Pinkston Watersports – Glasgow. Early one Sunday morning, out of focus but I prefer it.

Detail….Productivity and Laziness

This week has been a contrast of productivity and laziness. I have spent far too much time checking in on my favourite blogs, scouring the internet virtually creating a wardrobe I will never be able to afford and baking.  I have however been preparing for going back out to photograph in schools next week – testing lights and cables (post to follow) and had a great shoot in Edinburgh on Monday, where the light was magnificent (post and images to follow).

Here are a couple from my morning walk, far too much snow here for my liking. Give me heat, a bikini and the sea any day.

Simply Sunday……Rose, Lace and Shadows

Today has been one for chores. Boring with a capital B. For the most part, the sun has been splitting the sky here in Scotland, which has been rare here the past few  weeks.  Annoying then that I had a pile of things to do before I get back to work tomorrow.

I’ve kept myself going by stopping for shortbread laced with Nutella, endless cups of tea and the odd bit of photography thrown in.

Here are todays results.  No people.  Just detail.

Shots and Open Mic

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I have been quiet on here for a while, work had been hectic for months and I felt I had kind of lost my mojo for a while there.

On a weekend away to York with a couple of friends who happen to be neighbours, we stumbled across The Nook Café Bar,  where we took in shots and listened to the open mic session.

I got the first request in…..the choice being decade – I chose “now” and surprisingly got an acoustic version of Rudimentals – Waiting All Night – one of my favourites.

That mojo is starting to come back….

Moments In-between…..

I love the moments in-between, spaces  filled with the ordinary.  This shot was taken on my recent visit to the Q pop restaurant on Selfridges roof, after my meal.  I was waiting on my friend who was at the loo. Incidently, the food, view and company at Q was divine but the service pretty poor.

Project 7……Day 1

To boost my creative motivation after weeks of work (I am now on four weeks holiday from my main photography job) I have decided to do a little project – Project 7 – a daily diary for one week.  I want to document the simple things, seeing the beauty in the each day.  Here goes…

Day 1…..fresh flowers I bought to brighten up the living room this morning. Ridiculously pretty and a mere two quid from Aldi.

Mia making Nachos for dinner in the kitchen, which we ate in the garden – just the three of us as Jonny is in Slovenia. David sat in his pants to eat his (I will spare you the image – use your imagination……). DSC_3264-3

After dinner we popped through to Edinburgh for a potter around in the late evening sun – this is the bottom of Cockburn Street.  Town is starting to fill up with tourists, ready for the Fringe.

Arabic coffee at Leila’s – we sat outside – a table for three and watched the world go by for a while.

Detail……At Lush Spa

I adore Lush products, as well as the ethics of their company.  As part of Spa in the City at the weekend, the Lush Spa in Edinburgh were offering free hand and arm massages in store.

I did not have time for one, as had another appointment booked at one of the tents at the West End, but my friend Elaine managed to squeeze one in….I looked on in envy….
