Simply Sunday……Flat Cap and Beard

Who made it November when it’s May?  A chilled Sunday after a four day week photographing groups and documenting a conference.  A quick stop for a portrait in between showers after brunch.

Location – Port Dundas

Blossoming…

This week has started well. Yesterday I was taking portraits of a beautiful young woman I know in a beautiful part-restored church in Glasgow.  Hopefully I will be able to share a couple of the images with you, permission permitting.  Afterwards I popped to The Lighthouse viewing gallery to take a landscape view of Glasgow.  It’s a city I love, but don’t know well enough.  That I need to change.

Today I have pottered. I did yoga, I baked, made soup, walked Alfie, had a cuppa with a neighbour.  I played more with my film camera – taking a quick portrait of David when he came home for lunch -taking shots on both film and digital of blossom whilst I am waiting for Tuesday Tacos night, making notes so I can  compare. I found the timer function by accident and took a shot of fuck all.

Tomorrow is my birthday – my week is shaping up well.

Slow Down and Learn to be Patient

Well I have been relaxing off work for the past week.  It’s flown by.  Three birthdays down – with mine just to go next week.  April is always such a busy time for us. I’ve read a couple of books, baked birthday cakes with gusto, had longer lies and given far too many lifts to Mia, far too late at night.  Workwise – I’ve had a toddler shoot – very relaxed and chilled but needed to be quick with the shutter as Isabella was on the move on a mission.

When it gets to my birthday – there is usually not much money left in the pot – that’s why this year I snapped up an early birthday present – an OM-1 camera from the Film Is Not Dead stall at Brick Lane when we were in London a few months ago.  I’ve been waiting patiently to use it, but patience has run out and I loaded it with my first roll of film today.  Already – it has slowed my pace, I am thinking more before each shot.  I am recording F-stop and shutter speeds, making notes as I am going along. And I am already anticipating what the first roll of film will turn out like.  I’m loving it… but finding it hard to accept I can’t see the shot I have just taken!  It’s already forced me to change the way I shoot digital as well – less shots, more composed.

Here are a few taken on my OM-D EM-1 digital, probably with my 12-40 lens, with a  little or no editing.

Today #2

I’ve been hanging out for the weekend ALL week. There must be something wrong with me because I feel exhausted most of the time and I am wishing my weekdays away. I had no plans for the weekend – the boys are away and Mia has stacks of studying to do.

In-between the mundane – here is a snapshot of the little things that made my day today.

1. A week old white roses – 3 quid from Aldi – none of this £45 a bunch crap –  that Interflora were trying to charge me to send to my mum for Mothers Day.  Utter bollocks.

2.Wholemeal, homemade pizza prep – to be eaten later, washed down with a glass of red watching The Voice, ogling Ricky Wilson with my girl.

3.Revision food for Mia – smoothie in the making.

4. Homemade flourless chocolate and lime cake for after I have finished drooling at the TV.

5. The most two interesting things I saw on my walk with the dog, although I did have a rather interesting conversation with my neighbour about lesbian activity on Netflix.

All images (except 5. – which was my old Nikon D90) taken on Olympus OMD EM1.

Today….#1

A collection of images from my Saturday.

1. A view from my bed, waking up MY time….bliss.

2. First cup of tea of the day, in bed, reading.

3. David and Alfie before work.

4. View from the van  – waiting on David delivering to customers in Leith.

5. The bumpy ride home from Edinburgh in the back of the van, listening to Kanye West.

Detail….Out of Focus and More Shoes I Don’t Own

A couple of my favourite images taken this past few days.  Taken on Olympus OM-D EM1.

Tulips in my living room – finished but better than fresh.  Decay always seems better with nature.

My new Mac lipstick. A little high maintenance for me.  It means I actually have to check my appearance from time to time. Image taken in the loos of Flatplanet, Soho.

Nicholas Kirkwood shoes – not mine.  Too big, too expensive for my budget. But lovely all the same.

Pinkston Watersports – Glasgow. Early one Sunday morning, out of focus but I prefer it.

Weekend Reflections…..

Sometimes the best laid plans go pear shaped.  Our family weekend in London wasn’t our greatest time away together.   But you live and learn and come back stronger.

Teamwork

I wanted to show you a few of my favourite images from this week’s shoot in Edinburgh.  Aghogho and I work well together.  We met about a year ago and quickly fell into a pattern.  She rocks up with her suitcase overflowing with outfits, I choose the locations. She changes in toilets, changing rooms and sometimes alleyways. I grab tea and wait patiently. We try to avoid lingering in shops so not to make purchases. We make it up as we go along.  Along the way we’ve become friends.  Natural beauty and natural lights.

Preparing Strawberries…..

Testing out lights and cables after a few months break from studio photography in preparation for going back to work.  I used my EM-1 instead of my work Nikon as wanted to see how it performed in a studio setting. It over exposed by one stop, but now I know.  Katie very kindly modelled for me. On her birthday as well.  Afterwards I helped her make chocolate covered strawberries.

Detail….Productivity and Laziness

This week has been a contrast of productivity and laziness. I have spent far too much time checking in on my favourite blogs, scouring the internet virtually creating a wardrobe I will never be able to afford and baking.  I have however been preparing for going back out to photograph in schools next week – testing lights and cables (post to follow) and had a great shoot in Edinburgh on Monday, where the light was magnificent (post and images to follow).

Here are a couple from my morning walk, far too much snow here for my liking. Give me heat, a bikini and the sea any day.
