Portrait and Landscape…..

A busy week.  Seven schools in five days.  The second image was taken at one of my schools on Thursday whilst I was waiting to take year groups.  It made a change to see such a lovely landscape view and natural light in my “office” for the afternoon.  Far too often I’m stuck in a spare bog standard classroom.   This image was taken on my work’s camera – Nikon D300s with a 35mm lens.

The first image was on I took today, a quick portrait of Jonny on the water, training. I used my OMD EM1 with 12-40mm lens.  Neither image has been edited (apart from putting into black and white).

Today #2

I’ve been hanging out for the weekend ALL week. There must be something wrong with me because I feel exhausted most of the time and I am wishing my weekdays away. I had no plans for the weekend – the boys are away and Mia has stacks of studying to do.

In-between the mundane – here is a snapshot of the little things that made my day today.

1. A week old white roses – 3 quid from Aldi – none of this £45 a bunch crap –  that Interflora were trying to charge me to send to my mum for Mothers Day.  Utter bollocks.

2.Wholemeal, homemade pizza prep – to be eaten later, washed down with a glass of red watching The Voice, ogling Ricky Wilson with my girl.

3.Revision food for Mia – smoothie in the making.

4. Homemade flourless chocolate and lime cake for after I have finished drooling at the TV.

5. The most two interesting things I saw on my walk with the dog, although I did have a rather interesting conversation with my neighbour about lesbian activity on Netflix.

All images (except 5. – which was my old Nikon D90) taken on Olympus OMD EM1.

Mary

This last week or so, I have barely picked up my camera.  The light has been poor, the weather wild and wintry. Added to that I have been back out to work visiting customers and organising bookings for the term ahead.

I took these images of Mary on the morning that her son was getting married….a kind of Mother of the Groom shoot.  I made a conscious decision at the end of last year not to undertake any more wedding commissions. If I’m being honest – I don’t enjoy taking wedding photos, plus I have a full time photography job through the week – I don’t want to spend my weekends stressing that I have all the correct shots for the bride and editing.  I want to spend them doing things I love (which very much includes photography!!!) but producing images I want to produce.

It’s not the first time I have photographed Mary and it’s certainly not the last, which I’m really pleased  about.  She has the most amazing smile, eyes and above all I love her infectious positive outlook.

Work Revisited……Mirrors, I see a pattern

Looking back at some of my images, I see patterns.  One of them is shooting incorporating reflections or mirrors.  Why that is …….I have no idea.  Some of the shots have been set up and some have just been observed.  Does anyone else see patterns in their work?

Scottish Leg of an Italian Wedding….

A few weeks ago I was asked to take a few shots for a newly married couple.  They had previously been married in Italy and were celebrating at home with friends and family in Scotland.  I couldn’t decide which camera to take with me as I had recently purchased my Olympus OMD-EM1 and still hadn’t had opportunity to play with it, so I took both the OMD and my trusty Nikon.  I ended up using both.

The Portrait Session #19 …….Just Dad

DSC_0018-3

Sunday afternoon here in Scotland was a wash out.  We passed the afternoon reading the papers, playing cribbage, drinking red wine with Mum in the kitchen making pasta.

Project 7….Day 7

Very behind.  Who cares? Felt wrong not to complete the project that was meant to get me back to being creative after months of studio work.

Freeda is our friends dog, she came to stay for a few days and lovingly watched Mia eating toast in the mornings.

Still have almost two weeks left of holidays and I have to be honest I’ve not done all I want to do and feel I have wasted some of my time – the odd day here and there passed with nothingness.   No point dwelling on what has been. Here’s to the next almost two weeks!

Looking Back……Looking Up and Ahead

Going through some old images I found this one of my Mum when we visited the Botanics, probably two years ago now, when she and Dad were up visiting.  Incidentally, one of me favourite images of my Dad was taken there.  Mum and Dad are visiting this coming weekend, which I am looking forward to.  We will drink lots of wine, play cribbage, talk a lot of crap and hopefully soak up some of the Edinburgh Fringe atmosphere.
